2019 Lahey Vineyards Syrah
2019 Lahey Vineyards Syrah

I have a love-hate relationship with Texas Syrah. It can be such a lovely thing but it is vintage specific. In 2019 the fruit came in looking beautiful and we were able to do a long cold soak. We allowed a partial spontaneous fermentation before deciding to inoculate for complexity. This wine changed dramatically while in barrel, sometimes in confusing ways. Syrah is definitely a tricky grape but we are always excited and hopeful for the chance to make it special.

Tasting Notes
This wine has a fairly pronounced nose with blackberries, bramble, smoke and eucalyptus . The palate is juicy and matches the nose with notes of plum, dark fruit, and a bit of minerality. This medium bodied wine has smooth tannins and a lovely finish. Drink now through 2029.
